There Is a Holy Fear

There Is a Holy Fear

What Comes into Your Mind When You Think About God?

For many years, I knew God was loving, gracious, and merciful. Yet there came a time when He began revealing another aspect of His nature to me, His holiness.

When I first caught a glimpse of the holiness of God, it changed me. It wasn't merely an intellectual understanding. It was a deep awareness of who He is and who I am in comparison. My heart was overwhelmed by His purity, majesty, and beauty.

The holiness of God is not simply one of His attributes. It is woven into everything He is. His love is holy. His mercy is holy. His goodness is holy. His power is holy.

As I began to see this, worship took on an entirely different meaning.

A Book That Shaped My Journey

One of the books that deeply impacted me during this season was The Knowledge of the Holy by A.W. Tozer.

I could hardly put it down. Through its pages, Tozer explores the character of God, His self-existence, transcendence, sovereignty, goodness, mercy, faithfulness, and more. Yet what stood out to me most was the realization that every attribute of God rests upon His holiness.

The more I learned about who He is, the more I found myself drawn to worship.

More Than an Emotion

Many people hear the phrase fear of the Lord and think of terror or dread. But biblical fear is something very different.

It is an attitude of awe, reverence, and honor. It is the settled posture of a heart that recognizes God's greatness and responds with worship.

The fear of the Lord is not something that comes and goes with our emotions. It becomes a lens through which we see Him. It affects how we think, how we live, and how we approach His presence.

Astonished by His Beauty

The reality that God is holy continues to astonish me.

It has challenged my assumptions, expanded my understanding, and deepened my worship. There are moments when His majesty leaves me speechless, moments when all I can do is stand in wonder before Him.

His holiness doesn't push me away; it draws me closer.

The more I see His greatness, the greater my desire becomes to know Him, worship Him, and surrender every part of my life to Him.

The fear of the Lord is not the fear of rejection. It is the overwhelming awareness that the God who is infinitely holy has invited us near through Jesus Christ. The closer we come to Him, the more we see His greatness, and the more our hearts bow in wonder and worship.

There is a holy fear.
